2 Year Update

We will hit another milestone on Monday when Harper moves up to the 2 year old room at daycare. Her teachers all say she's more than ready but it's always hard leaving the comforts of her friends and great teachers. I do believe we scored - yet again - with another great teacher.  Her name is Jolynn and she's very much like Donna (infant teacher) and Demi (1 year old teacher) in that she's gentle, soft-spoken and seems very loving. So I think the first couple days will be hard, but overall Harper will adjust fine. The bright side is that 2 or 3 other kids from her class are moving the same day so she will have friends there to play with.

Some other updates from the past few weeks:
  • Harper can now count to 12. And she loves to line things up and count them, or we play "I spy" while driving and she'll count things like green signs, white cars, etc.
  • She can sing several songs, but we love it when she sings Twinkle Little Star because does VERY fast - and it's quite funny. Other songs she likes to sing: Itsy Bitsy Spider, Jingle Bells, ABCs, Wheels on the Bus...
  • Speaking of ABCs, she knows her's. And she can recognize some letters when looking at them. She can also tell the difference between numbers and letters.
  • She knows all her colors - and LOVES to color. She especially loves to color with blue crayons. We have a box full of crayons and a stack of coloring books, and she always goes for any shade of blue.
  • She remembers things very well, even if she's only heard it once.
  • She's funny. Just this morning she was singing the "I'm a Map" song from Dora and I asked her if she was a map. She said, "No, I'm Harper." and then she laughed. To me, that's hilarious!
  • Speaking of Dora, we watch one Dora cartoon a day....as she loves Dora. Last night we were going to the Van Maanen's, and as we were approaching their house I said to Harper: "Look it's Mollie's house." Harper then says to me: "Let's go. Vamanos!" If you don't know, vamanos is Spanish for "let's go". And obviously we don't say that much around the house - but she picked it up from Dora and used it in the correct context. Amazing.
  • She somehow has learned to jump in place. And that's also fun to watch her trying to jump across a room.
  • We taught her to play "hide and seek" and that's been a fun activity around the house. She loves to come find us, but when it's her to turn to hide and we say "here we come"...she doesn't stay in her hiding place but instead comes to find us.  Still pretty fun!
Enjoy the photos below from her photo shoot.
